If your filters aren’t returning the results you expect, don’t worry — it’s usually one of a few common issues. Here’s a quick checklist to help you troubleshoot:
1. In dashboards: the graph isn’t using dashboard filters
Your dashboard might have filters applied, but each graph can choose whether to use them:
If a graph doesn’t have “Use dashboard filters” toggled on, the filters simply won’t apply to it.
✅ To check: click the Edit insights button in the top-right corner of your graph and make sure each graph is set to use them.
2. Dashboard filters weren’t saved
Another common issue: filters were selected but not saved. Unless you click “Save”, the filters won't be applied the next time you open the dashboard.
✅ Always hit Save after adjusting filters to make sure they stick.
3. Mixing group ID with other filters
In dashboards, using a group ID filter with other filters can cause conflicts. This filter is meant to be used on its own — combining it with others often results in no data shown.
✅ If you're filtering by group ID, try removing other filters and check your results again.
4. In audiences: the filter level doesn’t match the audience level
Sometimes you're using a company-level filter while looking at a list of users. Which can create some confusion. For instance, if you're using a workspace level filter for "total events performed" > 100, then all the users that belong to a workspace with above 100 events performed will show. Even if individually they didn't perform more than 100 events.
If the data model doesn’t link those users to the company, your result will be empty.
✅ Make sure the filters you're using match the level of the audience you're exploring — users, groups, or companies — and that the entities are correctly associated.
5. Misunderstanding AND vs. OR logic
This one’s tricky! Here's the difference:
AND means all conditions must be true at the same time.
OR means at least one condition must be true.
✅ If you're trying to show users who match either condition A or condition B, make sure you're using OR, not AND.
